Pet over population is the number one reason animal shelters exist. Moving is another, and finally, though rarely admitted, bad habits.
Even the most loving of families have at times felt it best to “give away” a pet to a good home due to bad behavior. “It’s too hyper . . . knocks kids around . . . digs the yard up . . . chews the house down . . .” the list goes on and on.
Older dogs are not as cute as the waves of pups passing through the shelter doors. The pet is depressed and missing its family. It may not try to make friends. Even if the pet lucks into a new home, old habits pop up and back to the shelter it goes. The end of the story is left to your imagination. As the numbers indicate, it’s not always a happy one. We emphasize the education of the family as well as the pet. Results are pets that receive consistent, loving care and are joyfully included in daily activities for the rest of their lives. Best of all, there’s an empty place at the shelter! Bless the shelters and those that staff it. More importantly, bless the folks that give their time. Hands are the item in greatest demand and in shortest supply. Give a call to one of the organizations below if you can lend one.
